Our Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officers Gail Mounsey, Bonnie O’Shanassy and Bec Brown are here to help you or a family member while in hospital or when using our mental health service.

You may get a visit from Clinical Care Coordinator Rosemary Thomas who will make sure you are getting all the care you need.

Our staff have learned a lot about the traditional custodians of local lands, the Gunaikurnai and Bunurong people. LRH has education programs for staff and takes part in significant events such as NAIDOC Week and Close the Gap day. Our Aboriginal Health Liaison officers have worked hard to connect our health services to culture and Country, right across Gippsland.

When you come to our entrances, you’ll be welcomed by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags. Our reception areas have plaques which acknowledge and recognise the traditional custodians of the land on which our health services are situated. Local Aboriginal artists have shared their creative flair by designing artwork for our walls – not because we want our hospital to look good, but to let you and your family know this is a safe and welcoming place for you to receive care.

If you need some fresh air and a quiet space, LRH has a garden which celebrates the Gunaikurnai story through artwork created by school children from Morwell. You can enter the garden through the Nicholson Rehabilitation Unit.

LRH’s big expansion which opens in 2024 will feature an incredible new lobby area with a specially commissioned wall design created by a local Aboriginal artist. You will also see new facilities for our Aboriginal Health Liaison officers and Aboriginal patients and families.
