Some diseases such as bowel cancer may require the surgical removal of diseased portions of bowel. The bowel may have to be re-routed through an artificially created hole, known as a stoma in the abdomen so faeces can still leave the body.
Our Wound Management and Stomal Therapy Service cares for people who have acute or chronic wounds or need help with ongoing wound management including the formation of a stoma after surgery.
Our service offers pre-operative counselling and stoma siting for bowel surgery. Staff will also follow up with more counselling and education after the stoma is formed.
