Tarra Paediatric Unit
Our 10-bed paediatric unit provides a safe and caring environment for children and their families at a time when they are feeling vulnerable or distressed.
We also offer the Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service and Regional Outreach and Shared Care Program designed to help children and adolescents with cancer.
We work closely with the Royal Children's Hospital's shared and home care program. Local children who have been receiving treatment for a serious illness at RCH are able to be transferred to the Tarra Unit for care closer to home. Families living with children who are ill are also able to get support from home care nurses.
There is an extensive outpatient paediatric service providing specialist consultation and surgical services for children. Children and their parents or carers attend the clinic to undergo consultation with their paediatric surgeon before and after surgery and to receive ongoing treatment and care.
Children are seen by appointment on referral.
The Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (VPRS) is a sub-acute program run by Latrobe Regional Hospital.
It supports children from Gippsland who may have received specialist care from the Royal Children’s Hospital or Monash Children’s Hospital. The VPRS team which includes physiotherapists and occupational therapists works with the children when they return home.
