New video series helps Gippslanders navigate their cancer journey

As the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre (GCCC) celebrates 20 years of providing cancer care closer to home, we’ve launched a new video series designed to help our patients feel informed, prepared and supported from diagnosis through to treatment and beyond.

The four-part series offers a behind-the-scenes look at different stages of the cancer journey, answering common questions and helping patients and their families understand what to expect before they walk through the doors.

A cancer diagnosis can bring uncertainty and anxiety. By providing clear, accessible information, the videos aim to help patients feel more confident navigating their care while highlighting the expertise and support available right here in Gippsland.

The series includes:

• The Chemotherapy Virtual Tour follows the experience of attending the Chemotherapy Day Unit, from preparing for treatment and meeting the care team to what happens during a treatment appointment and the support available along the way.
• The Radiotherapy Virtual Tour explains the radiotherapy process, including referral, initial appointments, treatment planning and what happens during a radiotherapy session.
• A third video introduces the specialist work of a radiation oncology medical physicist. It explores the expertise and quality assurance processes behind radiation treatment, including how equipment is tested, calibrated and monitored to help ensure treatment is delivered safely and accurately.
• The fourth video invites viewers to discover Gippsland Rotary Centenary House, which provides accommodation close to the Centre for eligible patients and families travelling to Latrobe Regional Health for treatment. The video provides a tour of the guest rooms, communal areas and facilities, while explaining how accommodation can be arranged alongside treatment appointments.

The videos also showcase the multidisciplinary team that supports patients throughout their treatment, including nurses, doctors, allied health professionals, Aboriginal Health staff and many others who work together to deliver person-centred care.

Created as part of the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre’s 20th anniversary, the videos celebrate not only how far cancer care has come in Gippsland, but also the Centre’s ongoing commitment to helping patients and families feel informed, prepared and supported.
