During your cancer journey you may come in contact with medical oncologists, haematologists, physicians, radiation oncologists and therapists, chemotherapy nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse consultants, cancer care nurses, allied health and Cancer Patient Navigators.

Because of their expertise and commitment to regional cancer care, LRH is able to offer most treatments right here in Gippsland so you can stay close to home and have the support of your family, friends and community.

There are a lot of high-skilled health professionals working to give you the best care possible.

Our Cancer Care team consists of:

Radiation oncologists – doctors who specialise in the treatment of cancer and other conditions using radiation therapy.

Radiation oncology registrar – a doctor who is training to be a Radiation Oncologist.

Radiation therapists – health professionals who plan and deliver radiation therapy according to the doctor’s prescription.

Nurses – who assess and care for patients during their radiation therapy treatment. Nurses also help with the management of side effects and referrals to other support services.

Medical physicists – who run routine quality assurance procedures on the equipment and machines to ensure safe and accurate treatment.

Cancer Patient Navigators – single point of contact for individuals, families and healthcare professionals to provide assistance with scheduling consultations, treatments and follow-up appointments. They will help patients navigate the healthcare system with confidence and dignity.

Students – we are a teaching organisation, so students may be involved in patient care while under the supervision of qualified staff.
