Cancer care coordinators are registered nurses who are available to help patients. They provide support at diagnosis, during treatment and beyond and are a contact point to assist with navigating health care needs.
We understand a cancer diagnosis is a lot to take in – not just for you but your family and friends as well.
Our cancer care coordinators are able to help you understand the disease and your treatment. They’ll help you communicate with your treatment team, if you need.
The coordinators also attend to referrals to community and specialist cancer services and facilitate education programs.

Education programs
Many education programs are offered online through various agencies. Please check with your cancer care coordinator.
The free program, Look Good Feel Better is run by the Cancer Patients Foundation and teaches people with cancer how to manage treatment side-effects which may affect their appearance and physical wellbeing.
Cancer Council Victoria offers education for patients at the start of their cancer journey and for people who have completed their treatment.
Wig library
The Carmen Cook Wig Library honours a much loved local community member and LRH volunteer who dedicated her time to improving the hospital experience for cancer patients. Carmen spent many hours helping patients experiencing hair loss to find a wig, fashionable scarf or hat. The wig library is situated in the Chemotherapy Unit and pieces are available for loan. Fittings and wig maintenance are generously provided by a volunteer hairdresser who belongs to LRH’s Community Champions program.

Exercise program
LRH offers an exercise program for cancer patients. The ‘Keep Moving With Cancer’ program is run by our physiotherapists.
Cancer survivorship program
Survivorship care aims to improve outcomes for people living with cancer or beyond their diagnosis. There are nurse-led survivorship clinics at some Gippsland health services supporting people with physical and mental health and emotional care. Ask your cancer care coordinator or treatment team for more information.
