Giving birth

You're not alone. More than 800 women give birth at our hospital each year.

When do I come to hospital?

If you are worried about your baby’s movements, experiencing signs of labour or  concerned about your condition in any way, call the Thomson Unit on 5173 8211. Don’t hesitate, even if you are unsure. Your care and the health of your baby is really important to us.

What are the signs of labour?

You are experiencing regular contractions.

Your water breaks. We’ll ask you to describe the colour and amount of fluid. Please put on a sanitary pad.

Let us know if you notice any blood loss.

The birthing process

The Thomson Unit has 3 labour rooms with private bathrooms. We have a great team of midwives to support you during birth. You will have options to manage your pain with or without medication.
