Research & Clinical Trials

Research for change – together improving health outcomes for the Gippsland community

Research and clinical trials go hand-in-hand in discovering and improving patient care and treatment. Research helps to improve policies, practices and treatments in the healthcare system.

Since its establishment in 2019, our Research Unit has managed projects and clinical trials across a variety of healthcare areas, driven by the specific needs and health priorities of our local community.

In developing our clinical research portfolio, the hospital has also built solid foundations and has worked with our support departments to ensure we have access to fully accredited local pathology, radiology and clinical trial pharmacy services.

Research at LRH focuses on key areas of need and we have established collaborative partnerships to enhance outcomes.

In the next phase of embedding clinical research into our health service it is essential we have a clear vision on how best to raise awareness of the opportunities research presents as a means to increasing care practices in order to position LRH as a trusted and respected centre of excellence for research.

Steve's clinical trial crusade

At just 28-years-old, Stephen Wadey from Stratford was blindsided by a melanoma diagnosis following a routine health check for a new job. He’s on a mission to improve access to clinical trials in regional areas like Gippsland.
